Autistic expert to speak at Harper

Harper College will show a documentary this afternoon about Kim Peek, the inspiration behind the 1988 Oscar-winning film "Rain Man." Peek was supposed to speak this month on campus, but died suddenly last December. Harper contacted Dr. Darold Treffert to speak in Peek's place.

Treffert is a psychiatrist and expert on autistic savants. He studied Peek, appearing in the documentary "The Real Rain Man," which will be shown today at 12:10 p.m. in Room A242ab in the Student Center, Building A. Treffert will also speak at noon Monday, March 15, about newly-discovered savants.

Harper is located at Algonquin and Roselle roads, Palatine. Both events are free. For more information, call (847) 925-6100.
