'Seussical' opens at ECC Theater
The Cat in the Hat, Horton the elephant, Lazy Mayzie and other characters popularized in the books of by children's author Dr. Seuss will appear in the Elgin Community College Musical Theatre's spring production of "Seussical."
The show, based on the Broadway musical, opens at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 19, in the Visual and Performing Arts Center Blizzard Theatre, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin.
It will be performed at 7:30 p.m. Fridays, Feb. 19 and 26; and Saturdays, Feb. 20 and 27. Performances will be held at 3 p.m. on Sundays, Feb. 21 and 28. Directing and choreographing the musical is Konnie Kay. ECC professor John G. Slawson is the artistic and musical director.
Kay said audiences should expect to see a production that digs deeper into the meaning of Dr. Seuss's many beloved books. Believing in yourself, friendship, loyalty and individuality are themes that center around this tale of a girl from Whoville.
"Dr. Seuss made a lot of statements in his books that were profound and adult-oriented," Kay said. "I hope audiences will go away enlightened."
