Harry Manx returns to Elgin Community College

After wowing audiences as an opening act for Richie Havens last April, guitarist Harry Manx returns to Elgin Community College for solo performances on Saturday, Jan. 30 and Sunday, Jan. 31. Both concerts are in the Visual and Performing Arts Center on the ECC main campus, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin.

Harry Manx's sound blends gritty Delta blues, eastern Indian ragas and a warm, smoky voice into an ultra-hypnotic groove. His musical arsenal includes a slide guitar, harmonica, six-string banjo, and the Mohan Veena, a custom-made Indian 20-string arch-top guitar. He is a five-time Juno Award (Canada's version of the Grammy) nominee, and his latest release is "Bread & Buddha."

"After his performance with us last year, people begged me to bring Harry back for a solo show," said Steve Duchrow, ECC's director of performing arts. "Harry's musical talents will blow your mind, and his funny, personable style brings it all together."

Concert-goers are encouraged to enjoy a preconcert, Indian-inspired, gourmet dinner, prepared and served by students of ECC's award-winning Culinary Arts and Hospitality Institute of Elgin. The cost of the dinner is $19 per person.

Seating for Harry Manx is available for $25 per person on Jan. 30 and $20 on Jan. 31. Tickets for all performances in the ECC arts center are available online at tickets.elgin.edu or at the ECC box office located in the arts center. Box office hours are noon to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and noon to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday. To purchase tickets by phone, call (847) 622-0300. All major credit cards are accepted.
