Dynamic duo lifts Elk Grove
Elk Grove's front line dynamic duo of seniors Courtney Lindfors and Ashley Capotosto combined for 35 points as the Grenadiers moved into a three-way tie for second place in the Mid-Suburban East with a 45-30 girls basketball victory over visiting Rolling Meadows.
Lindfors scored 18 points with 10 rebounds while Capotosto added 17 points, 12 rebounds and 3 steals for the Grenadiers (15-3, 3-2).
Senior point guard Olivia Roback, who battled foul trouble in the first half, produced another solid floor game with 4 points, 5 rebounds, 4 steals and 3 assists.
"She was in some foul trouble but we definitely needed her in the game to calm us down," said Grens coach Ryan Kirkorsky.
"Todd (Hatfield, Meadows coach) does a good job getting his kids to play at the tempo they want. Our kids showed some good composure on a few possessions which helped us pull away a little toward the end."
Missy Regan handed out 3 assists for the winners while Meghan Amann added 4 points.
Meadows (9-10, 1-4) was led by junior Madelynn Conlin's 8 points, including the only two 3-pointers in the game.
Conant 40, Palatine 38: Conant improved to 6-13 and 2-3 in the MSL West as senior guard Ashley Lindeman scored a game-high 15 points and junior Lindsay Fillingim added 10.
Lindeman had pair of 3-pointers while sophomore teammate Alli Bauch had one.
Palatine (8-12, 0-4) was led by senior forward Katie Nawrot (16 points) and freshman guard Nia Pappas (11 points, including a 3-pointer).
Maine West 40, Maine East 22: Maine West (7-14, 4-2) snapped a six-game losing streak as senior Megan O'Neill scored 14 points and classmate Ellen Coogan added 9 in the Central Suburban North contest in Park Ridge.
Coogan pulled down 12 rebounds while O'Neill had 11.
"That's why we won the game," said Maine West coach Derril Kipp of the 23 combined rebounds by Coogan and O'Neill.
Sophomore Amanda Hoye and Amanda Ollerer each added 5 points as Kipp moved to within 3 wins of 700 for his career.
Kipp is trying to join Marshall's Dorothy Gaters, Fenwick's Dave Power and Galesburg's Evan Massey as the only girls basketball coaches to win 700 games in IHSA history.
