Northwest suburban sports camps & tryouts

Tryouts and clinics for community sports groups, plus sporting events and tournaments, skate competitions, public appearances by sports stars in the area, autograph signings, sports conventions, etc. Deadline is two weeks before event date.

Wheeling Youth Basketball: Registration is being accepted for the Wheeling Park District Youth Basketball program. Ten divisions are offered for boys and girls in grades K-10 at an affordable rate. Wheeling Fitness Center: Purchase an annual membership to the Wheeling Park District Fitness Center, 333 W. Dundee Road, during the month of October and get your pick of prizes, in addition to the benefits of exercise at a reasonable rate. Chooses on of three options: Five group fitness class passes; three 30-minute training sessions with a certified personal trainer; or a 13-month added to the membership at no cost. Palatine Park District: Volleyball and basketball leagues begin Jan. 9 and run through March 13, at Falcon Park Recreation Center. Volleyball leagues for grades three, four, five and six; basketball league for grades one and two. Registration will be taken at the Community Center, 250 E. Wood St. or Birchwood Recreation Center, 435 W. Illinois Ave. Registration forms and rosters can be downloaded from palatineparks.org/forms.html.

W.C.B.A. Travel Basketball: The World Class Basketball Association runs various travel teams and basketball camps for boys in grades five-high school. The association is currently scheduling evaluations for its 2010 Winter Travel Basketball program, which runs teams out of the Northwest Suburbs. Stars of Tomorrow Basketball Tournament: Stars of Tomorrow Basketball Tournaments, a nonprofit, runs basketball tournaments for boys and girls teams in grades fifth-high school. Conant Feeder Boys Basketball: The Conant Feeder Boys Basketball program has announced tryout dates for the 2009-2010 winter season. The program is designed for boys in sixth-eighth grade, who have the desire to play basketball at Conant High School in the future. Players must live in the district to be eligible for these teams. Basketball at the RecPlex: Men's winter basketball league registration is being accepted at RecPlex only. No mail in registration accepted. Hersey Feeder Basketball tryouts: 12:15-2:15 p.m. sixth grade; 2-4 p.m. seventh grade; and 4-5:45 p.m. eighth grade Sunday Dec. 6, Hersey High School, and 3:15-5:15 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 12, Hersey Fieldhouse.
