Harper turns back Olive-Harvey

In game that saw five lead changes in the first five minutes, the Harper College men's basketball team eventually took control and defeated visiting Olive-Harvey 69-51 on Saturday.

The Panthers fell to 1-4 while the Hawks improved to 3-3.

Guard Tracy Winston led the Hawks with 11 points. A 13-1 Harper run led to a 30-23 lead, and the Hawks never again trailed.

"I don't think we executed on offense like we should have," said Harper coach Tony Amarino.

"They (Olive-Harvey) wouldn't go away."

Amarino said he felt his squad was always in control, even as the pesky Panthers kept cutting into the Hawks' halftime lead.

Guard Floyd Battle had 9 points, Schaumburg graduate Perrish Bell finished with 5, and former Saxon Brandon Bolger pitched in with 4.

Kevin Steele (Fremd) scored 9 and went 3-for-3 from the free-throw line.

"The main thing is we got a win," Amarino said.
