A Grand challenge awaits Harper
This is certainly one tall task.
That's the challenge the Harper College football team faces today when the Hawks travel to play No. 7-ranked Grand Rapids Community College.
How good is Grand Rapids? The undefeated Raiders (7-0) beat No. 12 Ellsworth Community College 77-56 on Sept. 26.
"It sounds like a basketball game," said Hawks coach Eric Waldstein about that final score "They are a good football team. You cannot argue with an undefeated record."
Grand Rapids does, however, give up a lot of points.
"They can afford to do that with the offense they have," Waldstein said of the Raiders' spread attack incorporated in a Wing-T formation.
"Their quarterback (Casey Therriault) is pretty darn good," Waldstein said. "I put him up there with (Ellsworth quarterback) Rennie Tirrell. He has a good arm and he can run."
To add intrigue to the matchup, the respective presidents of both schools are twin brothers - and each has guaranteed victory. The Hawks are expecting a contingent of about 100 faculty members and students to make the trip to Grand Rapids.
