Make a Difference Day events still looking for volunteers

Arlington Heights

The Volunteer Center of Northwest Suburban Chicago has partnered with local organizations to list ways to get involved for Make A Difference Day or at other times. The list of projects is at volunteerinfo.net/MDD%20list.pdf or call (847) 228-1320 or e-mail lisa.kim@volunteerinfo.net.

The Historic Arlington Neighborhood Association Food & Toiletry Drive for Shelter Inc. is collecting donations at Festival Park, one block north of Euclid on Chestnut, 9 a.m. to noon. A list of needed items is at arlington-hana.com. Select Library and then select 2009 List of Supplies.

Five community service projects looking for volunteers are being organized by Our Saviours Lutheran Church. To join one of these efforts, call (630) 539-5610 or e-mail gsadlon@fellowes.com. • Arlington Heights Lake Arlington Park Cleanup: Pick up trash and pull weeds.

• Arlington Heights Senior Center: Assist seniors with fall cleanup of their yards, raking and bagging leaves.

• Practically Perfect Resale Shop: Sort, prepare and display donated merchandise, and assist customers.

• Northwest Community Hospital: Sewing 150 hand puppets for the pediatric ward.

• Wheeling Township: Work as a team in creating an activity and operating a booth in a program for developmentally disabled children.

Barrington

Citizens for Conservation volunteers will meet at 9 a.m. at CFC headquarters, 459 West Highway 22, across from Good Shepherd Hospital, to collect seed of native plants for restoration of habitat. Wear long pants, sturdy shoes, bring work gloves and dress for the weather. Call (847) 382-7283 for information.

Barrington Hills

The village of Barrington Hills' Beautification Committee holds its semi-annual Roadside Trash Pick Up Event Saturday, Oct. 24. Volunteers are encouraged to come alone or build teams of four to make the most of the Make A Difference Day concept in the community. The goal is to remove trash along three village thoroughfares in under two hours. Participants will meet at the Riding Center at 361 Bateman Road at 8:15 am for a tailgate kickoff and registration. Safety vests and garbage bags will be provided, as well as police personnel. Wear weather-appropriate clothing, such as boots and rubber gloves. For information, call (847) 551-3000.

Buffalo Grove

Aptakisic-Tripp Elementary District 102 residents can make projects and write letters to severely disabled residents of Little Angels at Pritchett School. People will be collecting personal care items and will hold a used book sale, raffle, bake sale and lunch. Call (847) 353-5723 or e-mail szindell@yahoo.com.

Mount Prospect

Donate used school supplies, books, sporting equipment, musical instruments, toys, and clothes for distribution to clients of the Jane Addams Hull House in Chicago between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. at 519 N. Eastwood Ave. Call (847) 401-1676 or e-mail pattymaro@gmail.com for details.

Schaumburg

Hoover School's Make a Difference Club will be assembling fleece blankets from 1-3 p.m. for Schaumburg Township, which has indicated there are 65 families who could benefit.
