Scouting McHenry @ Jacobs
McHenry (3-4, 2-1) at Jacobs (2-5, 1-2)
When Today at 7:15 p.m. at Jacobs Athletic Field
Last year McHenry 33, Jacobs 14
Last week Jacobs 37, Dundee-Crown 6; Cary-Grove 31, McHenry 28
Outlook Jacobs took out several weeks of frustration on rival Dundee-Crown last week, ending a 5-game losing streak with an emphatic victory. The Golden Eagles led 6-0 in the second quarter, when sophomore defensive back Henry Gigeous intercepted a pass deep in D-C territory and returned it 3 yards for a touchdown to gain some breathing room. It was one of 6 interceptions by the Jacobs defense, which included picks by T.J. Brooks, Alec Starr and 3 by Mike Stein. Jacobs faces a much tougher opponent in the Warriors, who are improving in a new offense despite being eliminated from the playoffs. Last week McHenry nearly pulled off the Fox Valley Conference upset of the decade. The Warriors led Cary-Grove 28-24 with 24 seconds to play but allowed a 9-yard scoring pass on fourth-and-4. The Warriors' 28 points against Cary, several of which were the result of short scoring drives after turnovers, opened some eyes considering the Trojans had previously allowed only 6 points in 6 games. It has taken McHenry half a season to adjust to a new spread offense, but the Warriors are playing well on offense at this point. Junior quarterback Thomas Rose has thrown for nearly 1,700 yards and 9 touchdowns with 7 interceptions.
