Scuffle at Harper injures cop

A female Harper College student reportedly dancing "provocatively" outside a campus building caused quite a stir Wednesday afternoon, with a campus police officer sent to the hospital after he was shoved trying to break up the crowd, college spokesman Phil Burdick said. He said a scuffle broke out among the crowd watching the dance, and a 22-year-old male student would not produce identification when asked by police. The student pushed the officer to the ground, where he hit his head, Burdick said. "He was alert and conscious," he added. The officer was taken to Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights, where he is in the critical care unit, a hospital spokesman said. The student is being held while the Cook County state's attorney's office interviews witnesses and decides whether to file charges against the student, Burdick said.
