MSL girls tennis meet preview
When: 3:30 p.m. today and Friday; 8 a.m. Saturday
Where: Hersey, Buffalo Grove and Wheeling
First-round matches: No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles at Hersey; No. 2 singles and Nos. 2 and 4 doubles at BG; No. 3 singles and No. 3 doubles at Wheeling.
Outlook: Barrington is aiming for its 15th consecutive MSL crown, and the Fillies are the favorites once again.
In each of the seven brackets (No. 1 singles through No. 4 doubles), Barrington has the top-seeded player or doubles team.
BG heads the list of teams trying to take the MSL title from the Fillies. The Bison have earned the No. 2 seed in each of the seven brackets. In the two teams' head-to-head meeting this year, Barrington won 6 of the 7 matches.
Barrington's Kristy Dodge, Buffalo Grove's Nell Boyd and Prospect's Anne Duggan are all returning state qualifiers in the No. 1 singles draw. Add in Schaumburg freshman Monica Lin, who has earned the No. 3 seed in that field behind Dodge and Boyd, and there should be some great matches in that bracket.
The same goes for the No. 1 doubles draw where Alli Linden and Meg Crowley of Barrington, Buffalo Grove's Ashton and Heather Nisbet and Rolling Meadows' MaryClare Loughery and Kim Martini are all returning state qualifiers.
