• Paul Dawson, managing director of construction projects at Elgin Community College, was recognized by the Council for Resource Development for his commitment to helping students via the ECC Foundation golf classic.

Dawson will receive the Benefactor Award, which embodies the ideals of philanthropy, leadership and volunteerism in the service of community, technical and junior colleges, during the organization's annual conference in Washington, D.C.

• Dr. Gregg Stern of Buffalo Grove co-authored research that appeared in the Journal of Peidatric, Maternal & Family Health - Chiropractic discussing how chiropractic treatment might assist in treatment of women with infertility issues.

• Valparaiso University student David Carter of Arlington Heights was among several students who completed an intensive five-week program during which they immersed themselves in Chinese culture and gained firsthand experiences in a global workplace.

Carter, a junior international business major, is the son of James Carter of Arlington Heights and a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church.

As part of Valparaiso's eighth annual Summer in China program, students worked at a dozen different Chinese companies and institutions to boost their readiness to work in an international setting. Carter completed his internship at China Art.

• Lindsey Bell, a 2006 Elk Grove High School graduate, was invited to participate with 193 other Student Government Association presidents from around the country at the 2009 AIPAC Policy Conference in Washington D.C.

Bell, who served as a student lobbyist during the three-day event, is the daughter of Dave and Karen Bell of Elk Grove Village. She was also accepted into the Augustana chapter of Mortar Board, the National College Senior Honor Society. This summer, she co-chaired the Lake County Repulican Intern committee. She is a history major, political science/art minor at Augustana College.
