Tuesday's Fox Valley roundup

The South Elgin boys soccer team notched its first Upstate Eight Conference win of the season Tuesday, knocking off St. Charles East 2-1.

Onyx Gonzalez put South Elgin (3-1-1, 1-0) on top in the first half with a goal at the 24 minute mark. St. Charles East then tied it up midway through the second half before Bart Mazurek scored the eventual winning goal with under 5 minutes to play in regulation on an assist from Kevin McElwain.

Cary-Grove 1, Jacobs 0: The Trojans (3-0, 1-0) notched their first Fox Valley Conference Valley Division win at home over the Golden Eagles, pushing in a goal during the second half en route to 1-0 victory.

John Gray scored the match-winner off a feed from C.J. Arenberg. Cary-Grove's Will Higgins and Zach Cheatle each recorded 2 saves a piece while Danny Trevor also registered 2 saves in goal for Jacobs.

Crystal Lake South 5, Dundee-Crown 2: The Gators (7-0-1, 1-0) used a strong second half to earn their first victory in Fox Valley (Valley) play over Dundee-Crown (2-4-1, 0-2).

Mike Hernandez, Charlie Oliver, and Alex Tapia all scored first half goals for the Gators but the Chargers hung tough as they scored goals of their own off the feet of Ozvaldo Ramirez and Mauricio Avellano. Jacob Stock and Charlie Oliver both added insurance goals in the second half to secure the victory for the Gators. Crystal Lake South's Dave Walsh recorded 4 saves in goal while Dundee-Crown goalkeeper Edit Fuentes stopped 5 shots on goal.

Hampshire 3, Stillman Valley 1: The Whip-Purs (3-1-1) fell behind early but then exploded for 3 second half goals to earn a nonconference victory.

Francisco Solis, Robert Murphy, and Johny Cabral all scored for Hampshire while Kyle Bracke, Cabral, and Ismail Morales each added assists. Marcus Quick recorded 5 saves in goal.

Streamwood 3, Oswego 2: The Sabres (2-3-2) notched a dramatic overtime victory in the Pepsi Showdown Tournament beating Oswego 3-2.

Alex Perez led the offensive charge scoring a goal and adding 2 assists while Ulsises Manjarez scored the second goal in regulation. Ulises Chavez then provided the late game heroics two minutes into overtime scoring the game winner from 40 yards out. Edgar Leyva registered 8 saves in goal.

Huntley 1, McHenry 0: It took the Red Raiders (3-3-1, 1-0) 2 overtimes but they finally pushed a goal across with 7:11 left in the second overtime to secure their first Fox Valley (Valley) victory. Lucas Baker lofted a corner kick to the near post as Ignacio Solorzano flicked a header just over the McHenry goalkeeper for the game winner. Kevin Montelongo preserved the shutout collecting 5 saves in goal.

Burlington Central 7, Oregon 3: The Rockets (4-2-0) wasted little time before exploding for 4 first half goals in their 7-3 nonconference victory. Alexis Camarena recorded a hat trick and Christopher Gousios scored 2 goals while Alejandro Nava and Arley Valdez picked up the other 2 goals. Alex Pieper and Matt Dahlberg each recorded 1 save in goal for BC.
