Homecoming tickets on sale
Tickets to Jacobs High School's homecoming dance will be on sale during lunch periods on Tuesday and Wednesday, Sept. 8 and 9. They also will be sold Friday morning, Sept. 11, and from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 12 in the commons. Tickets are $18 each on Tuesday and Wednesday. After that, the price goes up to $20. Jacobs takes on the Prairie Ridge Wolves at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 11. The dance is Saturday night, Sept. 12. Visit sites.google.com/site/hdjstuco/homecoming-2009 for more information.
U-46 students earn automotive tech scholarships
Three Elgin Area School District U-46 high school graduates, now students at Elgin Community College, have received scholarships to study automotive technology. Businesses from the Elgin Area Elite Auto Repair Centers donated $2,000 to the district's educational foundation to establish the scholarships for seniors graduating last May. Larkin graduate Adrian Corona received a $1,000 scholarship; Elgin High graduate Austin Kaszuba received a $500 scholarship; and Eric Severson of Larkin received a $500 scholarship.
Job seeker boot camp
Looking to get job skills, fast? Short-term training for job skills that will result in near immediate employment or to prepare for a better job is the purpose of "Boot Camp," an Elgin Community College program. Classes include medical coding, medical billing, pharmacy technician, "green" technology training, wedding planning, dialysis technician and home inspection training.
