Suicide group to meet
Attempters' of Suicide support group meets from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Stone Manor, 528 S. Batavia Ave. (Route 31), Batavia. It is sponsored by Suicide Prevention Services. Call (630) 482-9696, or visit spsfv.org.
Register for fall programs
Residents of Fox Valley Park District may register for fall programs and events beginning at 8:30 a.m. Saturday. Others can register starting Aug. 17. The Fall 2009 Activity Guide is available now at the district's community centers and at foxvalleyparkdistrict.org.
Batavia blood drive
The City of Batavia will have a blood drive from noon to 4 p.m. Aug. 12 in the council chambers at the Batavia Government Center, 100 N. Island Ave. Call Stacy Schilling at (630) 454-2070 if you wish to make an appointment. Walk-ins are welcome.
Historic baseball
The Geneva Rovers will play the Batavia Bat Men in a 19th-century-style baseball game at 2 p.m. Aug. 15 at Sunset Park, 710 Western Ave., Geneva. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children and members, with all proceeds benefiting the Geneva History Center. Spectators are encouraged to bring picnic blankets and lawn chairs.
Community Chest golf outing
Win $10,000 or a 42-inch high-definition television set at the Geneva Community Chest Golf Outing Aug. 31 at Eagle Brook Country Club in Geneva. Register for fall classes
Open registration for fall credit classes at Elgin Community College will continue until classes start, space permitting. Fall 16-week classes begin the week of Aug. 24; 12-week classes begin the week of Sept. 21; and eight-week classes begin the week of Oct. 19. Students with an ECC identification number can register online at elgin.edu/accessecc. Registration can be made in person at the registration center in Room 165 of the Student Resource Center, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin. The registration center is open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday. The college is closed Friday. Students will be expected to provide proof of having met course prerequisites, if documentation is not already on file at ECC.
