Hoffman hosts Relay For Life
The village of Hoffman Estates hosts its American Cancer Society Relay For Life event from Friday, Aug. 7, to Saturday, Aug. 8.
The event will be held at the Virginia Mary Hayter Village Green, located on Prairie Stone Parkway off Route 72 in the Prairie Stone Business Park. Opening ceremonies begin at 6 p.m. Friday with a survivor lap. The event continues through the night and concludes at 6 a.m. Saturday. Throughout the event there will be entertainment, a DJ with karaoke, food vendors, themed laps, movies and more.
Money raised helps fund research, early detection and prevention education, as well as information, programs and services to help people who have cancer.

Donate LEGOs for Clearbrook
In honor of the upcoming one-year anniversary of LEGOLAND Discovery Center in Schaumburg, everyone who donates at least 10 LEGO bricks at the center through Friday, Aug. 7, will receive half off the standard admission price.
The donated LEGOs will be used to build a 10-foot-tall birthday candle and then donated to Clearbrook, an Arlington Heights-based agency that provides services to and runs residential facilities for children and adults with developmental disabilities.
Designed for families with children aged 2 to 12, LEGOLAND opened last year at Streets of Woodfield, just south of Woodfield Shopping Center in Schaumburg. It's open 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily, and regular admission is $15 for children, $19 for adults and $17 for seniors, with annual passes for $37.50 per child. Call (847) 592-9700.
Learn for life at Harper College
Harper College's Lifelong Learning Institute, a program for people 55 and older, will hold an introductory open house and program preview at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 5, in the Performing Arts Center on Harper's main campus, 1200 Algonquin Road in Palatine.
Participants can meet program instructors, attend short class previews and enjoy free refreshments. Harper's Lifelong Learning Institute offers courses, seminars, trips, tours and lectures with an emphasis on the joy of continued learning. The opportunities, offered through the College's Continuing Education department, require no homework, tests or grades. Fall options include a History of Brewing in Chicago course and a trip to Indiana's covered bridges.
