ECC starts weekend courses

Beginning in August, Elgin Community College offers students an affordable and flexible option to continue their education on the weekends, ideal for those unable to attend traditional college classes at other times.

Weekend College offers students the opportunity to enroll in five-week, eight-week or 16-week courses at ECC's main campus, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin, while continuing to maintain active lives and increase career marketability.

"We wanted to meet the growing needs of students who desired to continue their education, but were unable due to personal or professional commitments," said Tony Miksa, dean of ECC's math, science, engineering and health professions division.

This comprehensive program is structured to permit students to enroll in multiple courses during a semester. Students can choose from an expanded list of courses that will be conveniently offered Friday or Saturday, with additional courses offered each semester thereafter. Classes include both career-technical offerings intended for immediate employment and those meeting general education requirements for transfer to virtually any college or university.

"Weekend College is a great option for those who prefer the personal attention of an in-person instructor," Miksa said.

"Not everyone enjoys online or virtual classes, which require learning via computer and on your own. Course delivery on weekends allows students who work weekdays to get a traditional college experience at a nontraditional time."
