Find out about postcards at McHenry Co. historical society meeting
At 7 p.m. Monday, June 22, members of the McHenry County Historical Society host their 45th annual meeting in the main exhibit hall of the Society's museum, 6422 Main St. in Union.
Before the actual meeting starts, two members of the Algonquin Historic Commission, Jeff Jolitz and Don Purn, will provide an entertaining program on the history of picture postcards.
Such cards are widely sought by collectors and museums for their value in providing time-related snapshots of local streets, businesses, homes and other structures, events and landscapes. Because they are undated, except when there is a postal cancellation date, it is helpful to know the clues for dating. Jolitz and Purn will share this information and more during their talk.
The annual meeting follows with reports on the state of the society, its financial status, various committees and the administrator's report. It is at this meeting that new board members are elected.
