Naperville to break ground:

Naperville will break ground for Fire Station 10 at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 16, at 3201 95th St. The station will be constructed on land donated to the city by the developer of the nearby Naperville Crossings for the exclusive use of building a fire station. The $2.4 million facility will provide primary emergency response to areas west of Route 59, including White Eagle and Carillon Club, as well as areas east of Route 59, including Neuqua Valley High School. The station's primary response area is bordered by 83rd Street to the north, Book Road to the east and the city's municipal boundary to the west. The station is scheduled for completion in late fall.

Police dispatchers recognized:

The Naperville Police Department has been recognized by the Association of Public Safety Communications Officials International as a certified agency meeting or exceeding the group's standards for public safety telecommunicators. With 24 telecommunicators and four supervisors, Naperville's 911 dispatch center is staffed to handle emergency and nonemergency phone calls regarding police and fire incidents.

Scholarship deadline nears:

A June 19 deadline is approaching for Wheaton-area college students who want to apply for scholarships from the Rotary Club of Wheaton. To qualify, students must show financial need to complete their junior and senior years. The scholarship is for two years, $3,250 each year, for Wheaton residents who have a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or above on a scale of 4.0. Application forms are available online at wheatonrotary.org.

Flag Day celebration:

Naperville Township will celebrate Flag Day with a ceremony at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 14, at the base of the Millennium Carillon on Rotary Hill. Naperville Mayor George Pradel and U.S. Rep. Judy Biggert will be the featured guests. The day is meant to commemorate the adoption of the U.S. flag, which took place on June 14, 1777.

HGTV coming to area:

Home & Garden Television's "Bang For Your Buck" is returning for a second season and looking for homeowners in the Chicago area who have completed renovations in the past three years. Each of the show's episodes will tour three similar remodels at similar price points in the same city. A design expert and real estate expert will be brought in to determine how the renovation affects each home's value. Taping is scheduled to begin soon. Motorcycles OK at lots:

Naperville area commuters with a valid parking permit for the Burlington, Parkview, Kroehler or Route 59 commuter parking lots may park their registered motorcycle in the lots beginning Monday, June 15. The new parking allowance is part of a six-month trial program that runs through Nov. 30. Permit holders must register their motorcycles with the city before parking in the commuter lots. To register, a valid commuter parking permit, motorcycle license plate number, e-mail address and phone number must be provided in person or online at naperville.il.us/commuterparking.aspx. Only one motorcycle may be registered for each permit and commuters cannot park both a vehicle and motorcycle in the lot at the same time.

Boosters hold fundraiser:

The Glenbard South Boosters will host a golf outing today. It will include a $5,000 hole-in-one contest. Check-in and registration start at 11 a.m. at the Glendale Lake Golf Course, 1550 President St., Glendale Heights. Single golfer fees are $125 and include 18 holes of golf, lunch, dinner and admission to the silent auction and raffle. Those interested in the 6 p.m. buffet dinner can pay $35. Addison checkpoint results:

The Addison Police Department conducted a roadside safety checkpoint that netted 111 citations and arrests from 8 p.m. May 29 to 2 a.m. May 30 at 1111 W. Lake St. The multijurisdictional checkpoint included Addison police, the Illinois State Police, the DuPage County sheriff's office and the Bloomingdale, Villa Park and Wood Dale police departments. The citations and arrests were: 27 for no valid drivers license; seven for driving with a suspended or revoked license; 48 for no vehicle insurance; 10 for no seat belts; 10 for child restraint violations; one registration violation; three moving violations; three warrant arrests; three for cannabis possession; one for open alcohol; and 13 warning tickets.
