Cat month in DuPage:
The DuPage County Animal Care and Control Center is celebrating "Cat Adoption Month" by offering adult cats for $50 during June. All adult felines have been sapyed or neutered as well as micro-chipped for identification and vaccinated. Adoption hours are noon to 7 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays; noon to 4:30 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays; and 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Saturdays.
Dist. 44 seeks board member:
The Lombard Elementary District 44 school board is looking to fill a vacancy to replace board member Bob Friend, who resigned his seat after being elected in April to the Glenbard High School District 87 school board. Completed applications must be returned to the board by June 1. Candidates must be a U.S. citizen, at least 18, a resident of Illinois and the district for at least a year immediately preceding appointment and a registered voter. The board will conduct interviews for the posititon on June 9 at the administration center, 150 W. Madison, Lombard, and swear in the new member of June 16. Hug a truck:
The popular Touch-a-Truck event returns to Reed-Keppler Park, National and Arbor streets in West Chicago, from 9 to 11 a.m. today. Kids - and grownups, too - will get the chance to look at, sit in or climb on unusual trucks and equipment from the public works and police departments, as well as the West Chicago Fire Protection District and local businesses. Voter kiosk:
Residents can learn about topics such as how to register to vote, election day voting, absentee voting and early voting at a new touch-screen voter kiosk in the lobby of the Lombard village hall, 255 E. Wilson Ave. The user-friendly kiosk is provided by the DuPage Election Commission.
High school art recognized:
Three DuPage County high school students and one high school art department received awards from DuPage Credit Union this month for artwork displayed in the second annual My Choice exhibit at the College of DuPage. The exhibit featured art by students from 12 area high schools. Phillip Heinnen of York in Elmhurst got $500 for receiving the most votes by visitors to the exhibit at the McAntinich Arts Center and an additional $100 for being selected Best in Show by the College of DuPage Art Department. Alexander Flemm of Glenbard South in Glen Ellyn was awarded $250 for second place and Katie McGovern of Glenbard East in Lombard received $100 for third place.
