Wauconda Park District invites you to help celebrate it's 50th anniversary

The Wauconda Park District is celebrating its 50th anniversary this weekend with a big picnic, and the whole community is invited to attend.

This Sunday, loads of activities are taking place at Cook Park in Wauconda to celebrate. Picnic-style games, bounce houses, face painting, crafts and a ventriloquist/storyteller all will be present for family-fun entertainment. Flash point, a rock and pop band, also will be performing.

"We've been putting out quality programs for our residents for 50 years so we just want to celebrate with them," park district Marketing Coordinator Jill Hastings said.

Nancy Jagielsky has been an administrative assistant for the park district for 13 years and grew up in Island Lake. She is looking forward to going to the picnic with her grandson, who uses the park district the same way she did growing up.

"We've been able to see it grow with us and with our families to the point where my grandson uses it so it's kind of fun," Jagielsky said.

The fact that the park district has grown so much with the expansion of Wauconda also makes this anniversary important.

"Just the fact that they've (the park district) been here and have been able to grow and keep up with everything makes it an event for everyone that works here," Jagielsky said.

The 50th Anniversary Celebration will happen Sunday from 3-7 p.m. at Cook Park, 600 N. Main St. in Wauconda. The storyteller will perform from 5-6 p.m. and the band begins at 6 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. Food will be available for purchase but bringing a picnic dinner is welcome.
