Burlington falls twice at Jamboree

The Burlington Central softball team saw its 16-game winning streak snapped Friday with two losses to Class 4A powerhouses at the Stone City Jamboree in Minooka.

The Rockets first lost to defending Class 4A state champion Lincoln-Way Central 4-1 then to Southwest Suburban Conference champ Lincoln-Way East 7-0.

Mackenzie Scott (15-2) suffered the loss against LW-Central, allowing 7 hits with 13 strikeouts and 4 walks. The 13 Ks put her over 200 for the season. BC managed just 5 hits in the game, a triple by Lindsay Lange, a double from Jessica Herrmann and singles from Kayla Oranger, Brittany Priest and Ashley Scheffler.

Against LW-East, the Rockets (20-5) were held to 3 hits. Herrmann and Kelsey Neids each had doubles and Sam Gruner a single. Jet Kein suffered the loss in the circle for the Rockets, who trailed just 2-0 into the fifth inning before allowing 5 runs.

BC opens the Class 3A postseason Tuesday at its own regional, taking on IMSA.

CL South 2, Dundee-Crown 0: Emily Mahoney (15-8) tossed a 1-hitter with 11 strikeouts and no walks as the Gators (22-11, 9-6) closed the regular season with a win over Dundee-Crown. Megan Hardie and Liz Adams each had doubles for CL South. Melany Love took the loss for D-C and Melissa Summaria had the Chargers' only hit.
