Chain water levels:
Water levels on the Chain O' Lakes dipped a little over the past week, though officials said the water remains too high to remove the "no wake" restrictions in place. Currently, water is one-half inch above flood levels in low-lying areas in Fox Lake. That's equal to residents getting water on lawns, but not high enough to cause any building damage. The Fox Waterway Agency and the Illinois Department of Natural Resources said boaters are still not allowed to boat on the Fox River between the Algonquin Dam to the mouth of the Chain because levels are high enough to cause significant currents and make the waterway unsafe. It's unclear when those restrictions will be lifted. For more information, check out the Fox Waterway Agency Internet Web site at www.foxwaterway.org.
