Saturday's Fox Valley softball roundup

Freeport Tournament: Huntley (7-5) wrapped up action at the Freeport Tournament Saturday going 2-1 on the day. The Red Raiders dropped their first game of the day to McHenry 3-2 before coming back to earn back-to-back victories, beating Monroe (Wis.) 3-2 and taking down Morrison 6-1 in the final game of the tournament. Samantha Clemons (6-3) was a workhorse for Huntley pitching all 21 innings on the day, giving up just 4 earned runs and 14 hits while striking out 10 over the three games. Jenna Mychko and Deana DeBosschere paced the offensive attack with 4 hits apiece while Clemons added 3 hits of her own.

Palatine Tournament: Jacobs (3-3) split a pair of games Saturday afternoon starting off the day with a 9-0 victory over Belvidere before losing game two to Palatine 5-2. Jenna Teson led the Golden Eagles in the first game turning in a 4-for-4 performance at the plate while Marissa Lombardo (1-0) picked up her first victory of the season. Lombardo pitched a complete game striking out 9 and only allowing 2 hits. In game 2, Kara Arceneaux (2-2) endured the loss for Jacobs going 6 innings, striking out 8 while giving up 7 hits. On the offensive end, Cassie Bencal led the Golden Eagles turning in a 2-for-3 effort

Woodstock Tournament: Crystal Lake South (7-2) enjoyed an explosive day at the plate which led the Gators to take 3 games in Woodstock. Kaitlin Hardie paced the Gators in game one turning in a 2-for-4 with 2 RBI performance en route to a 12-2 victory over Naperville North. Hardie came up big again in game two going 4-for-4 with 3 RBI while sister Megan Hardie also went perfect from the plate going 3-for-3 with a home run and 2 RBI, giving the Gators their second victory of the day beating Harvard 12-2. Emily Mahoney earned the win against Naperville North and Hannah Mahoney won the Harvard game, throwing a 1-hitter. In game 3, Samatha Golf (2-1) pitched a 9-inning complete game giving up just 1 earned run and striking out 3 leading Crystal Lake South to a 3-2 victory over Conant.

St. Edward splits: St. Edward (6-3) came out strong in the first game of its doubleheader scoring 3 runs in the first inning and eventually pulling out a 5-4 victory over Ottawa Marquette. Megan Smith (2-for-3, 2 RBI), Kristi Knott (2-for-3, 2B, 2 runs), and Sarah Field (2 RBI) led the Green Wave offensively. Field (6-2) also did it on the mound pitching a complete game 3-hitter while striking out 7. In game 2, Lea Diaz recorded a 2-for-3 effort at the plate while also scoring a run for the Green Wave but it was not enough as St. Edward fell to Marquette 3-2. Madeline Foehringer (0-1) suffered the loss going 7 innings, giving up 5 hits, and striking out 3.

Boys volleyball

At Rolling Meadows: Bartlett (3-6) went 2-3 at the Rolling Meadows Tournament defeating St. Joseph (25-10, 25-11) and Riverside-Brookfield (25-12, 26-24), while suffering losses to Fremd (25-21, 25-14), Rolling Meadows (25-23, 25-14), and Waukegan (25-23, 16-25, 27-26). Kris Kuehn led the Hawks' attack with 30 kills and 13 aces throughout the tournament while Tim Rendall registered 93 assists. Freshman Tim Urgena paced the Bartlett defense with a team-leading 59 digs.
