Finance crimes highlighted

The Arlington Heights Senior Center will host a program on financial crimes at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 7 at 1801 W. Central Road. Investigator Todd Radek of the Arlington Heights Police Department will discuss identity theft and financial crimes, Internet scams, phone scams and what to do if you are a victim. Give input for grant program

The village of Palatine is soliciting community input and funding requests for its Community Development Block Grant program in the upcoming fiscal year. Public hearings will take place at 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 7 at village hall, 200 E. Wood St., and at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 9 at the Palatine Opportunity Center, 1585 N. Rand Road. The village encourages participation by "very low, low, and moderate-income residents," in addition to minorities, non-English speakers and people with physical challenges. CUB coming to Mount Prospect

The Citizens Utility Board, a utility watchdog group, is holding a phone bill clinic 10 a.m. Thursday, April 9 at the Mount Prospect Village Hall, 50 S. Emerson St. Many consumers can enjoy significant savings on their phone bills by following a few simple steps, CUB said, with a $300 annual savings on cell phone use, for example, not uncommon. Renew license at township

Secretary of State Jesse White, in cooperation with Cuba Township, is offering drivers a chance to renew their driver's licenses, obtain a duplicate or corrected license or obtain an Illinois ID card from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, April 9 at Cuba Township, 28000 W. Cuba Road, near Barrington. An applicant renewing an Illinois driver's license or ID card need only present a current valid license or ID card. If the applicant is applying for either a duplicate or corrected license or ID card, the applicant must present two forms of identification. Palatine to hold blood drive

Teen formalwear for free

Schaumburg Township's Spectrum Youth and Family Services and the Vogelei Teen Center will host a Prom (Formalwear) Gala for teens from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, April 17 in the gymnasium at Schaumburg Township Hall, 1 Illinois Blvd., in Hoffman Estates. Items at the gala will include "gently used" prom/formal dresses, shoes, jewelry, evening bags and men's formalwear. These items will be free to teens and there is a wide selection available. Teens do not necessarily have to be going to prom this year; they can come and get formalwear for any occasion.

Dist. 54 foundation benefit

The Schaumburg Township Elementary School Foundation will host four restaurant benefit nights from noon to 9 p.m. April 20 through 23 at Sweet Baby Ray's, 800 E. Higgins Road in Elk Grove Village. By presenting the flier downloadable at d54foundation.com, 15 percent of the pretax sales will be donated back to the foundation to support programs for Schaumburg Township Elementary District 54 students. Reservations are recommended, and carry-outs also count.
