Northwest suburban softball wrap-up
Senior Emily Ott fired a 2-hitter and also belted a 2-run homer in the sixth inning as Maine West (3-4) won the opener of a nonconference softball double-header with Conant 5-1.
Ott struck out 10 and walked none. She did not give up an earned run.
Margo Ehorn (3-for-4, 2 RBI, double) also homered in the seventh inning and Allie Ellwood doubled for the Warriors.
Freshman Brianna Cavin (2-1) collected 10 strikeouts for Conant (3-1) in Game 2 and blanked the Warriors 7-0 by tossing a 6-hitter.
Cavin also tripled in the game while teammate Nichole Gross (2-for-4) had a double.
Dana Butler and Vicki McGuire each went 3-for-6 in the two games for Conant.
Buffalo Grove 5, Lake Forest 4: Sophomore Andrea DiPrima doubled with two outs in the bottom of the sixth and came home on cleanup hitter Meg Miller's single up the middle for the winning run.
Sophomore Emily Begnel (2-0) fired a 3-hitter with 3 strikeouts and no walks as the host Bison improved to 3-1. Begnel also doubled.
DiPrima (3-for-4), Danni Shapiro (2-for-3) and freshman Sara Penelle (2-for-3) were the top hitters for the Bison while Miller had a pair of RBI.
Wheeling, Dundee-Crown split: Wheeling (1-1) won the opener 7-5 as junior Toni Menelle blanked the Chargers 2-0 with a 5-hitter and 4 strikeouts.
Sophomore Taylor Schroeder's bunt brought home Sammie Spinabella in the third inning while Sejal Shah reached on a three-base error in the sixth and came home on a wild pitch.
In Game 2, the Chargers rallied from a 2-0 deficit for a 3-2 victory.
The Wildcats scored in the first when Menelle doubled home Scout Scanlon, who had led off with a single.
They went ahead 2-0 in the third when Scanlon led off with a double and came home on Alyson Fallon's base hit.
Sophomore Sejal Shah suffered the loss for Wheeling. She struck out eight and gave up 7 hits.
Barrington 10, Round Lake 0 (6 innings): Senior Kim Cygan (8 strikeouts), sophomore Kiley Dolezal (5 strikeouts) and freshman Jordan Wekony (3 strikeouts) combined for a six-inning perfect game as the Flllies and Cygan improved to 4-0.
Top hitter for the Fillies were Colleen Shandley (3-for-4, 3 runs), Lindsey Dulla (3-for-4, 2 runs), Wekony (2-for-3, 3 RBI).
