Continue good leadership by Dist. 155 school board members
Crystal Lake Area High School District 155 is financially strong, posts high test scores and has a 95 percent graduation rate. Board members are credited for a superb relationship with administrators and each other. The board also can take pride in its recent success in negotiating a teacher contract that has expanded teacher workdays.
While all five candidates for the four seats are well-qualified, incumbents Ted Wagner, Ann Somers, Gary Oberg and David Secrest are endorsed.
Wagner, board president, inspired the group while placing a high priority on keeping up with technology and teacher training. On the curriculum committee, Somers has helped bring about additional AP classes and language offerings. Longtime board member Oberg has served on every committee in his 24 years, and we expect his wisdom and direction will continue. Secrest has a forward vision and knows to remain flexible in the face of an ever-diversified student body.
Paul Roth, the lone challenger, attends meetings and believes he would offer a fresh perspective, and we agree. His interest in serving is genuine, and we encourage him to continue his active role.
