Learn how to grow, care for native plants

The Wildflower Preservation and Propagation Committee of McHenry County presents the 17th annual Natural Landscaping Seminar from 8 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 28 at McHenry County College Conference Center, 8900 Route 14 in Crystal Lake.

Author William Cullina will speak on "Woodland Wildflowers: Jewels of the Forest." Mariette Nowak, author and past director of the Wehr Nature Center in Milwaukee, will talk about "Birdcaping in the Midwest."

"Remnants of the Illinois Wilderness" will be the focus for photographer and world-traveling naturalist Jim Rowan.

Michael Yanny, a plant propagator at Johnson's Nursery in Menomonee Falls, Wis., will talk about "Native Tree and Shrub Propagation."

Admission is $30 in advance, $35 at the door. Price includes a delicious lunch.

Vendors will purvey books, objets d'art, products and information to fulfill all your natural landscaping needs during breaks.

The seminar is sponsored by the Wildflower Preservation and Propagation Committee of McHenry County. It is a non-profit organization dedicated to promotng native species
