Health dept. to give norovirus presentation

After the reported cases of gastrointestinal illness (confirmed as "norovirus") at several long-term care facilities, the McHenry County Department of Health has scheduled presentations to provide guidelines for the prevention and spread of norovirus. Surrounding counties are also experiencing an increase in the number of cases.

The program will define what norovirus is, how it is transmitted, ways to prevent it and what to do if it occurs. Intended audiences are schools, day care centers, social service agencies, assisted living and long-term care facilities. The programs will be at 1 and 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 17 at the McHenry County Administration Building, second floor, Room B, 667 Ware Road, Woodstock; and 1 and 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 19 in the health clinic conference room at the McHenry County Department of Health, 100 N. Virginia Road, Crystal Lake.

Frequent handwashing and staying home when you're sick are ways to prevent the spread of illness. Space is limited at each presentation. Please make your reservation by calling MCDH at (815) 334-4585.
