Nisbet rings up 18 as Buffalo Grove knocks off Conant

Buffalo Grove's girls basketball team has been showing steady improvement right along under rookie coach Pat Dudle.

That trend didn't change Tuesday night when the Bison played host to a Conant team that came into the Mid-Suburban League crossover game at 11-4.

With junior guard Heather Nisbet scoring a game-high 18 points, and Stacey Lialios and Andrea DiPrima each chipping in 9, the Bison came away with a 45-35 victory over the Cougars.

Nisbet, who has started on two Elite Eight teams, fired home three 3-pointers in the first quarter as the Bison (6-12) grabbed a 16-9 lead after eight minutes.

Nisbet's fourth 3-pointer came in the third quarter. Kelly Mahoney added a 3-pointer for the winners in the final period.

The Cougars were paced by Ashley Lindeman (12 points) and Lauren Jason (9). Teammate Emma Loos scored all 6 of her points in the first half.

Wheeling 64, Barrington 32: Bianca Szafarowicz (22 points, 5 rebounds), Ashley Wilson (21 points, 8 rebounds, 6 steals, 3 assists) and Janelle Cannon (11 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists, 4 steals) were top scorers for the state-ranked Wildcats, who improved to 18-0 with the Mid-Suburban League homecourt crossover victory.

Sophomore Abby Kirchoff led the Fillies (11-6) with 11 points.

Prospect 53, Schaumburg 47: Prospect rallied from a 25-17 halftime deficit at the Jean Walker Field House to improve to 14-3 as Sarah Hunt led the way with 14 points, getting 12 of them in the second half.

"Sarah really stepped up in the second half," said Knigths coach Martha Kelly about her 6-foot-2 sophomore forward.

Junior guard Lexi Glennon added 12 points for the Knights.

"Lexi did a good job defensively," Kelly added. "Sarah Hunt and Alyssa Glennon (8 points all in the second half) picked up things on our press in the second half and the rest of the team followed."

Senior forwards Sarah Kellermeyer (15 points) and Sarah McGinn (13) led the Saxons (6-11), who saw the return of junior point guard Taylor Kosla (6 points). She missed the last two weeks with a finger injury.

Hoffman 41, Meadows 23: Megan Bernardoni (10 points), Alex Wulbecker (8), Megan Fischer (5) and Carol King (5) led a balanced attack for the Mundelein tourney champs, who improved to 14-2.

Host Rolling Meadows (5-11) was led by sophomores Maddy Conlin (10 points) and Sara Shumaker (6).

Elk Grove 53, Palatine 39: Junior Ashley Capotosto, one of the area's top scorers at more than 20 ppg, kept up her torrid pace with 22 points for the Grenadiers (8-8), who also received 13 points from freshman guard Katie Naughton.

Junior Jenny Solberg led the visiting Pirates (3-14) with 10 points while junior teammate Heather Zimmerman (8 points) connected for a pair of 3 pointers.
