Fire causes 'extensive' damage to house near Glendale Heights

Authorities are trying to determine the cause of a Friday morning house fire near Glendale Heights that left a family displaced.

Glenside Fire Protection District firefighters were dispatched at 7:46 a.m. to a house at 2N319 Pleasant Ave. When they arrived three minutes later, they found heavy smoke coming from the tri-level structure.

Deputy Fire Chief James Larsen said the blaze started in the basement and reached the second floor through a plumbing wall.

Two residents who were inside the house escaped before firefighters arrived. No injuries were reported.

The house had working smoke detectors.

The blaze was brought under control in about 15 minutes, officials said. There was extensive smoke damage.

Firefighters from Addison, Bloomingdale, Carol Stream and Wheaton assisted Glenside crews at the scene. Lombard firefighters provided fire station coverage.

A damage estimate wasn't available Friday. The house has been deemed uninhabitable until repairs are made.

Larsen said the displaced family is staying with relatives.
