Jacobs notches easy win

The Jacobs boys basketball team got to look at quite a few different players in its second game of the Jacobs Holiday Tournament.

All 15 players in uniform saw significant action and 12 scored as the Golden Eagles (7-2 overall) downed Wauconda, 73-31.

Conrad Krutwig had 16 points, 3 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 blocks in less than 3 quarters. Mike Barch added 11 points and Tim Moran had 10. Kevin Arndt grabbed 6 rebounds for the Golden Eagles.

Matt Stonis led Wauconda with 9 points.

Stonis kept the Bulldogs in the game early with a couple of 3-pointers. His second made it 10-6, but the Eagles then went on a 20-2 run to open a 30-8 lead early in the second quarter.

Krutwig brought the otherwise subdued crowd to life with a dunk following a steal by Moran.

Jacobs led 42-15 at halftime and continued to build the lead throughout the game.

Defensively, the Eagles forced 36 turnovers and held the Bulldogs to 36 percent shooting. Jacobs made more shots (32) than Wauconda attempted (28).

Even with coach Jim Hinkle going deep into his bench, the Eagles stayed patient and focused.

"All the way through, the 15 men went out and played disciplined basketball, played the way we want them to play," Hinkle said. "It wasn't wild and crazy, it wasn't turnover city. They all played big minutes and they did a fine job."

Josh Damhauser and Shane Slawek were among the Golden Eagles who kept the level of play high in the late going. Each scored 4 points in the fourth quarter.

Mike Peterson scored all 7 of his points in the first half for Jacobs. Gibson Gaite added 7 points for Wauconda.
