Upward Basketball Practices: Open to children in first through sixth grade. Practices begin in January, and weekly games take place on Saturdays from Jan. 24-March 14 at Arlington Countryside Church in Arlington Heights. Sign up by Nov. 17. Wheeling Girls Feeder Basketball tryouts: Sunday, Nov. 2; Wheeling High School, 900 S. Elmhurst, Wheeling. South Barrington Park District basketball leagues: The South Barrington Park District is accepting registration for youth basketball leagues for boys and girls in first-sixth grade. Teams will be formed in late fall and games will be played from January-March. Teams are headed by volunteer coaches, and all players will receive a participation trophy. Substitute bowlers needed: The Wednesday Senior Men's Bowling League seeks seniors age 55 and older interested in bowling as a substitute when regular teams are missing bowlers. Fall golf specials: The Des Plaines Park District will offer two new specials at the Lake Park Golf Course, Howard and Lee streets. Seven Dollar Sundays and the Five Dollar After School Special are available through Oct. 31 for golfers of all ages. Residents and nonresidents, can play unlimited golf for $7 all day on Sunday. FSC Aquatics teams open registration: Open registration is being held for the FSC Aquatics swim, diving and polo team. No tryouts required, all welcome. Hoffman Heat 14-U baseball: Tryouts for the 2009 season will be held on an individual basis during October. Players cannot turn 15 before May 1, 2009.
