Restoration donation

Peabody Energy is donating $125,000 over five years to the DuPage County Forest Preserve to help with the restoration of Mayslake Hall at an estate in Oak Brook previously owned by the founders of the company. The estate also was once used by an order of friars as a spiritual retreat. The building and adjacent land was purchased by the forest preserve in 1993. Mayslake Hall has been undergoing a series of repairs since it was purchased.

Book drive a success

As part of Glenbard District 87's Advocating Character Through Service Committee, students collected about 18,800 books for the Glenbard Gives Books project. The collection encouraged students to donate new or gently used books for ages prekindergarten through high school to benefit Chicago Public Schools and children served by local nonprofit organizations.

Trick-or-treat for UNICEF

This year, all Lombard District 44 elementary schools will demonstrate the Character Counts! Pillar of Caring by participating in Trick-or-treat for UNICEF. Students will carry a collection box along with their candy bags as they visit neighborhood homes on Halloween. Funds collected will be totaled by volunteers at Harris Bank of Lombard and forwarded to UNICEF's main office.
