Tryouts and clinics for community sports groups, plus sporting events and tournaments, skate competitions, public appearances by sports stars in the area, autograph signings, sports conventions, etc. Deadline is two weeks before event date.

Oct. 24

Pink Out Football Game: 5-7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 24, Fremd High School, Palatine. The United Club of Fremd and Fremd High School football players along with the American Cancer Society will dedicate the football game to help raise funds and awareness for cancer. Raffle, education table, dine and share days. Wear pink or yellow.

Hoffman Estates Girls Feeder Basketball tryouts: 2:30-5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, Hoffman Estates Park District Community Center and Ice Arena gym, 1685 W. Higgins Road, Hoffman Estates. Annual Turkey Trot: Thursday, Nov. 27, Harper College, 1200 W. Algonquin Road, Palatine, in front of Building A, Palatine. Pre-race $23 residents; $28 nonresidents. Race day, $40. Race times: 8 a.m.-two-mile run; 9 a.m. five-mile run. There will also be a 100 yard drumstick dash fun run for ages 10 and younger at 10 a.m., cost $5. Indoor Sprint Triathlon: Nov. 29, Community Recreation Center, 505 N. Springinsguth Road, Schaumburg. Schaumburg Park District host this indoor Sprint Triathlon which includes 10-minute swim, 15-minute bike ride and 15-minute run. Space is limited. $27, residents; $37 nonresidents. Kane County Phantoms 17U baseball: The Kane County Phantoms 17U baseball team is seeking a few additional players for the 2009 season. The Phantoms play in local, state and out of sate tournaments on weekends after the high school spiring season is completed. World Class Basketball Association: The World Class Basketball Association is looking for players for the 2008-09 Winter AAU/travel basketball season. Players in fifth-eighth grade, who are serious about the game of basketball and have a desire to play high school basketball in the future, are being sought. Substitute bowlers needed: The Wednesday Senior Men's Bowling League seeks seniors age 55 and older interested in bowling as a substitute when regular teams are missing bowlers. The league bowls at 12:15 p.m. Wednesdays at Elk Grove Bowl, Higgins and Arlington Heights roads. Cost is minimal. League luncheon and prize awards at the end of the season. Fall golf specials: The Des Plaines Park District will offer two new specials at the Lake Park Golf Course, Howard and Lee streets. Seven Dollar Sundays and the Five Dollar After School Special are available through Oct. 31 for golfers of all ages. Residents and nonresidents, can play unlimited golf for $7 all day on Sunday. FSC Aquatics teams open registration: Open registration is being held for the FSC Aquatics swim, diving and polo team. No tryouts required, all welcome. Basketball tournaments: There is a new basketball tournament organization that has various tournaments for boys and girls teams fifth grade through senior high school. The tournament directors have over 60 years of tournament running experience between them and include a former college coach and current high school varsity coach. Hoffman Heat 14-U baseball: Tryouts for the 2009 season will be held on an individual basis during October. Players cannot turn 15 before May 1, 2009.
