This one's for the girls
It's about more than the glory of victory.
No matter who wins, members of the Glenbard North High School pompon team have a chance to prove that the varsity football players aren't the only tough ones on the field.
That's why the junior and senior pompon dancers spent an entire week practicing for their annual homecoming Powder Puff game. The game will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 1. Admission is $3.
The event is a major fundraiser for the pompon team's competition season, helping to pay for travel and uniforms. Glenbard East High School similarly sponsored a powder puff game during its homecoming celebration.
But the powder puff game is just one of many activities students can check out during homecoming week. Earlier this month, students at Glenbard North nominated members of the homecoming court during their lunch periods and, on Oct. 1, the election will be held.
The homecoming king and queen and their court will be announced during a schoolwide pep rally on Friday, Oct 3. Later that evening, at 7:30 p.m., the Panthers will take on Community High School in West Chicago in the homecoming varsity football game. Alumni and the entire community are invited to join in the celebration and festivities.
Of course, homecoming week will wrap up when students dress in their best on Saturday, Oct. 4, for the homecoming dance, "Arabian Nights," which will happen in the school cafeteria.
