Lake Park (0-1) at Naperville Central (1-0)
Lake Park (0-1) at Naperville Central (1-0)
Nonconference
Game time: 7:30 p.m. today.
Last year: Naperville Central 38, Lake Park 13.
Last week: Conant 15, Lake Park 13; Naperville Central 24, Waubonsie Valley 14.
Outlook: Naperville Central holds a 4-2 edge in this nonconference grudge match that ends tonight. Lake Park, which last beat the Redhawks in 2006, allowed Conant a 2-yard touchdown drive after a high punt snap and a momentum-killing 96-yard kickoff return. A shame, because the Lancers outgained Conant 328-155 with quarterback Larry Nawrot completing 67 percent of his passes for 172 yards and Chris Jasinski and Kevin Thomas combining for 156 yards rushing. Simply put, Lake Park must finish on offense and fluster Redhawks quarterback Nick Linne. Naperville Central overcame a little bit of everything, including 3 touchdowns called back by penalties, to claim last week's win. Now the Redhawks seek their first 2-0 start since 2004 - a nice thought heading into rugged DuPage Valley Conference play. A shoulder injury to running back Nick Kukuc was another setback, but Redhawks coach Mike Stine said there was a chance Kukuc could play tonight. Five sacks from linemen Mike Kraft and Bryan Derence told the tale defensively.
