Big Band Dance: The college of DuPage Older Adult Institute will present Big Band Dance at 1:30 p.m. May 18 in Building K, West Commons. Admission is $6. For details, call (630) 942-2700.

Federal aid: COD students can obtain assistance filling out the 2008-09 free application for Federal Student Aid by making reservations for the mini workshops at the Office of Student Financial Aid.

Sessions will meet in Room 2052 of the Student Resource Center from noon to 1 p.m. May 19, 3 to 4 p.m. May 20, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. June 4 and 9 to 10 a.m. June 5.

Summer camp: Preschool summer camp will meet from 8:45 to 11:15 a.m. Mondays and Wednesdays or Tuesdays and Thursdays, May 27 to July 23, at the Early Childhood Center on Lambert Road, north of College Road. The program is for ages 3 to 5. Tuition is $272. For details, call (630) 942-4223.

Career options: Two free workshops, Women and Technology and Men in Health Care, will be offered from 5 to 8 p.m. May 21 and 29, respectively, in Room 1544 of the Student Resource Center. Registration is required. For details, call (630) 942-2496.

CTES: The college's Career and Technical Education Services program is free and available to the community. It offers education information and assistance in making career choices.

Lean Users: COD Business and Professional Institute and the Chicago Manufacturing Center will offer a Lean User Group meeting at 7:30 a.m. May 30 at BPI's center, 2525 Cabot Drive• Lisle. Study abroad: COD's Study Abroad Scholarship Committee is accepting applications for scholarships of up to $1,5000 for COD programs this fall. • College of DuPage's Business and Professional Institute and its new facility in Lisle is featured in the March edition of "Images," COD's monthly, half hour television show. Each month, "Images" highlights the personalities, news and curriculum of the campus. The show airs on 13 area cable television stations including Wheaton, Addison, Glen Ellyn, Naperville, Glendale Heights, Bartlett, Elk Grove, Aurora and West Chicago. • College of DuPage Library has received a $7,000 grant from the Consortium of Academic and Research Libraries in Illinois. The grant will help purchase books on business, economics, politics and homeland security issues.

• Corporation for National and Community Service has named the Service-Learning program at College of DuPage to the President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll for exemplary service efforts and service to disadvantaged youth. The honor roll is the highest federal recognition a school can receive for commitment to service-learning and civic engagement. COD is one of six nationwide to earn this year's award.

• College of DuPage will begin offering cosmetology classes at its Naperville Regional Center this August. Located at 1223 Rickert Drive, the Naperville Regional Center will become the second COD location where students can earn a certificate or an Associate in Applied Science degree in cosmetology. The college began offering cosmetology classes at the Addison Regional Center, 301 S. Swift Road, in August 2006. Students interested in enrolling at the Naperville location must first call for an appointment at (630) 942-4758, according to Bea Brown, program coordinator. Two open houses are scheduled for the Naperville campus on May 8 and 10. The average annual income for full-time salon professionals in Illinois is $30,000 to $50,000.

• COD received a $5,000 grant for its Career and Technical Education programs at the high school and college level from the Illinois Community College Board. The funds will be used for the DuPage/Joliet Match-in-CTE Collaborative effort. Another grand for $10,000 from the college board will be used to advance Innovate Now, an Illinois education, industry and community coalition supporting work force and economic development.•

• COD's faculty members recognized as 2007-08 Outstanding Faculty include Mary Beth Leone, assistant professor of Hotel and Lodging Management, as the college's Overall Outstanding Faculty Member.• Other staff include James Africh, Marianne Berger, Keith Krasemann, Denise Kruckenberg, Joel Quam, Linda Slusar and Nancy Webb. The faculty were nominated by students and receive a $500 cash award.•••

• COD received a storm Ready designation, making it one of only two institutions of higher learning in Illinois to receive the designation from the National Weather Service. The designation means COD has an eficient system to track storms and alert the community.

• The COD Forensics team places 10th out of 73 other college teams in the 2008 Phi Rho Pi National tournament. Team finalists include Kacy Abeln of Lombard, Stephen Colbert of Naperville, Randy Daniels of Westmont, Sam Uster of Lisle, Heather Zupancic. Team members include Stephen DeFalco, Robert Hagglund, Ashley King, John Schuhriemen and Jim Snyder.

• The Illinois Community College Board awarded COD $20,000 to support its Continuous Quality Improvement, Program Enhancement and Innovation in Career and Technical Education for 2008.
