Wrap: Naperville C., Glenbard E. earn 1-run victories

Katie Bradley singled in Holly Lind with the go-ahead run in the bottom of the fifth, and Naperville Central hung on for a 7-6 softball win over Wheaton North on Monday in Naperville.

Natalie Wunderlich (12-3) struck out 10 and also cracked a 2-run homer for the Redhawks (14-4, 6-2 DuPage Valley Conference). Erin Graham had 3 hits.

Glenbard East 5, West Aurora 4: Alyssa Gianatasio and Megan Shannon both homered for the Rams (8-13-2, 3-5 DVC). West Aurora (16-7, 4-4) rallied for 4 runs in the bottom of the seventh before coming up short.

West Chicago 9, Naperville North 0: Mary Connolly (13-5) struck out eight and also went 2-for-4 with a homer and 2 RBI for the Wildcats. Taylor Kutilek went 3-for-3 with 2 runs scored, 2 RBI and 2 stolen bases and Kaity Olson 2-for-4 for West Chicago (13-7, 7-2 DVC).

Lake Park 9, St. Charles East 4: Angie Bates doubled in 2 runs as part of a 6-run fourth for the Lancers (17-4, 11-2 Upstate Eight Conference). Lynsey Ciezki added an RBI double and Alexis Munaco a 2-run single in the inning.

Neuqua Valley 5-6, South Elgin 0-4: Colleen Hohman (4-6) struck out 12 and Summer McKenzie went 2-for-3 for the Wildcats in the opener. Neuqua Valley (13-10, 9-5 Upstate Eight) rallied for 3 runs in the top of the seventh of the second game to sweep the doubleheader. McKenzie doubled twice and Haley Bork was 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Waubonsie Valley 7, Elgin 2: Lisa Corrigan knocked in 3 runs and went 3-for-3 with a double and triple for the Warriors (5-15, 3-9 Upstate Eight). Becky Horton also had a double and triple and Lauren Thresh (3-4) struck out nine for Waubonsie Valley.

Downers Grove South 10, Hinsdale South 9: Kayla Gull and Jessi Bozek homered for the Mustangs, Bozek a 3-run shot, and Downers Grove South scored 3 times in the bottom of the sixth for a come-from-behind win. Karissa Habel (10-2) struck out eight for Downers Grove South (18-3, 8-1 West Suburban Gold Conference).

Glenbard West 6, Hinsdale Central 0: Melissa Rauch homered, doubled and drove in 4 runs to lead the Hilltoppers (14-4, 6-2 West Suburban Silver Conference). Melissa Noland added an RBI double to back pitcher Lauren Albrecht (9-1).

Elmwood Park 3, Fenton 1: Amber Schwarzinger struck out 10 for the Bison (15-7, 5-2 Metro Suburban Conference) but was the hard-luck loser with 4 errors behind her.

Aurora Central 6, Driscoll 4: Maggie Writt went 2-for-3 with a double, triple, 2 RBI and 2 runs scored for Driscoll (9-14, 3-9 Suburban Catholic Conference).

Marian Central 1, Montini 0: The Hurricanes scored a run in the bottom of the seventh off Lara Mangialardi (5-5) to edge Montini (6-8, 4-5 Suburban Catholic).

Illiana Christian 5-2, Timothy Christian 0-1: Kari LeGrand drove in Audie Smith in the first inning of the second game for the Trojans' (11-11, 9-3 Private School League) lone run in the doubleheader.

Leyden 6, Addison Trail 3: Leyden scored 4 runs in the third inning to defeat Addison Trail (5-14, 1-7 West Suburban Gold).

Coal City 10, Lisle 2: Jackie Todd went 2-for-3 for the Lions (3-15, 2-12 Interstate Eight Conference).

Baseball

Benet 6, Notre Dame 1:ŒBryan Roberts improved to 7-1 for the Redwings (16-8, 10-2) in their East Suburban Catholic Conference win. The Illinois-bound right-hander hurled a 2-hitter with 17 strikeouts and no walks.

Naperville Central 7, West Aurora 4:ŒJohn Holm's 3-run triple sparked a 5-run bottom of the fifth inning for the Redhawks (14-7, 9-5) in their DuPage Valley Conference win. Marc Mantucca pitched 6 innings while improving to 4-1.

Glenbard West 8, Downers North 6:ŒBlake O'Brien (4-2) won on the mound and J.D. Macleary homered for the Hilltoppers (9-11, 5-7) in their West Suburban Silver Conference victory over the Trojans (15-6, 9-3).

Willowbrook 11, Wheaton North 3:ŒChris Savas and Dave McKendrick each had 3 RBI for the Warriors (15-11) in their nonconference win. Jack DeAno and Wade Cervenka had 2 hits apiece for Wheaton North (17-7).

Driscoll 15, Aurora Central 6:ŒAdam Davis tripled, homered and drove in 5 runs as the Highlanders (17-6, 9-1) rolled in the Suburban Catholic Conference. Winning pitcher David Schwabe (3-1) had 2 hits and 2 RBI.

Wheaton Academy 10-21, Luther South 0-0:ŒEric Albaugh threw a perfect game in the opener, and Sam Scholes and Justin Potesta homered in Game 2 for the Warriors (11-9, 9-5) in their Private School League sweep.

Hinsdale South 3, Proviso East 0:ŒRyan Zenger (5-0) fired a 5-hitter with 5 strikeouts for the Hornets (13-10, 10-3) in their West Suburban Gold Conference win. Alex Perez went 2-for-2.
