Briefs: District 158 talks stall

Huntley Unit District 158 officials said Friday that no progress has been made in teacher contract negotiations. The district said the teachers union proposal, released last month, would bankrupt the district within two years. The union proposal called for pay raises totaling 10.6 percent per teacher. The district said the school board "would not approve any contract which included annual deficit spending." Under the district's proposal for a four-year contract, most teachers would get a 4.25 percent raise next year. Despite an agreement that the district and the Huntley Education Association would jointly update negotiations, the district unilaterally produced a news release. Union officials could not be reached for comment.
