Fox Valley Rocketeers: The Fox Valley Rocketeers, a local club of model rocketry enthusiasts, is hosting its May Rocket Launch from 1 to 5 p.m. May 10 at a farm field at 505 Menge Road, Marengo, roughly at the intersection of Menge and Bauman Roads.

The launch theme is "Slip Glidin' Away" for rocket and boost gliders. Rocket fliers are welcome to come and fly low- and mid-power rockets, and to attend the club meeting, from 7:30 to 9 p.m. May 5 at the McHenry Public Library, 809 N. Front St.

PBW of Illinois: The Professional Business Women of Illinois will host "Dream It, Believe It, Achieve It", a motivational workshop designed to explore how to achieve what you want out of life.

National trainer, local business owner and published author, Judy Pelinski will host this two-hour interactive workshop offering hands-on activities and valuable insight on how to discover your true desires and reach for your dreams.

Pelinski, a board member of PBWI. is a certified Interior Redesign and Staging trainer who has been teaching students nationwide and recognized as an industry leader. She owns Fresh Look Interiors and The Staging and Redesign Academy.

She incorporates techniques into each of her sessions that help students envision their desires, discover their strengths and follow their dreams, both in business and in their personal lives.

"I find it extremely important to help people understand that they can achieve whatever they set their mind to.

"The biggest obstacle is usually themselves." Pelinski said.

This workshop will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. May 19 at in the lower level community room at Home State Bank, corner of Route 14 and Main Street.

The cost of the workshop is $15 for nonmembers and $10 for PBWI members.

The Professional Business Women of Illinois are dedicated to providing a gateway for professional and personal growth through continuing education, community involvement and a network of combined resources.

McHenry County Chapter of AARP: The McHenry County Chapter of AARP will meet at 1:30 p.m. May 8 at The Fountains of Crystal Lake, on Route 31, one mile north of Route 176. Speaker will be Josette on Getting to Know One's Self. It is suggested you bring something to beat on.

In June members will have a luncheon at Country Buffet.

CAGG-NI: The Computer-Assisted Genealogy Group of Northern Illinois meetings are held at 10:30 a.m. the third Saturday of each month at the Schaumburg Township District Library, 130 S. Roselle Road, Schaumburg. 60193.

Leopard Operating System (MAC) will be covered on May 17.

Jim Kolak Jim will demo Apple's latest MAC operating system -- Leopard OSX 10.5. New features such as Quick Look, Time Machine, Spaces and many others (300-plus in all) will enhance your computer experience.

Leopard can now be used on both MAC and Windows software. One of this year's series of programs to help get our online lives together.

Fox Valley Citizens for Peace and Justice: The topic of race in America is back in the news, and it will soon be addressed here in Elgin.

Vince Gaddis will speak at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Gail Borden Public Library, 270 N. Grove Ave., Elgin. Gaddis's topic is "A Revolution in Values: Why America Must Embrace the Beloved Community."

Gaddis has his doctorate in intellectual history from Northern Illinois University. He is professor of history and chair of the Department of History, Philosophy, and Religious Studies at Benedictine University.

Gaddis's research currently focuses on the history of the civil rights movement. His forthcoming book will be titled "Martin Luther King and the Philosophy of Redemptive Suffering: Love, Leadership, and the Civil Rights Movement."

Gaddis also is pastor of the New Generation Christian Center in Aurora.

This event, co-sponsored by Fox Valley Citizens for Peace and Justice and Gail Borden Library will be free and open to the public. It is part of the library's "A Tapestry of Freedom" series. All are welcome. Light refreshments will be served.

Women of the Moose: Wauconda Chapter of the Women of the Moose will be hold its first outside garage sale at 9 a.m. Sunday in front of the Moose Lodge, 200 S. Maple St., Wauconda.

Algonquin Garden Club: The Algonquin Garden Club will sell perennials dug from members' gardens and flowers for Mother's Day from 8 to 11:30 a.m. May 10.

The sale will be at the Algonquin Town Center near Butera Grocery east of the Fox River on Algonquin Road (Route 62).

Would you like to be a Garden Club member? Algonquin Garden Club is starting a new season of learning and planting for the beauty of our parks. Fox Valley Bike and Ski Club: The Fox Valley Bicycle & Ski Club will meet at 7 p.m. May 14 at the Batavia Public Library, 10 S. Batavia Ave. and invites members and area cyclists to attend.

Tom & Julie Szafraniec, long time club members and ride leaders for the clubs day and weekend rides, will be the featured speakers. They will talk on how to plan and lead a successful ride, including safe bike handling on the trail and on the road. Every ride needs a leader and a well thought out plan, come and learn from the experts.

BNCA: The members of the Barrington/Northwest Community Associates of the Art Institute of Chicago will experience a wonderful day for their last excursion of the 2007-08 season. On May 22, members will travel to downtown Chicago for a tour of carefully selected galleries under the guidance of well-known excursion director Joan Arenberg. She will provide a "behind-the-scenes" tour of galleries chosen for their diverse and interesting exhibitions with the added feature of additional commentary from gallery owners.

Arenberg, founder of Highland Park based "Art on the Move Tours," never fails to impress tourists with her vast knowledge of the Chicago Art Scene that includes more than just the noteworthy museums. Lunch at a neighborhood restaurant will culminate this unique experience and conclude a truly outstanding season for B/NWCA. members and guests.

The next event will occur early in September when the group hosts the annual Membership Tea.

Fee for the May 22 downtown trip is $75, which includes transportation, tour and lunch.

NARFE: National Active and Retired Federal Employees will meet 1 p.m. May 13. Chapter 2181 meets monthly on the second Tuesday of the month at the American Legion meeting room at 820 N. Liberty St. (Route 25) in Elgin.

Lunch is available in the American Legion lunchroom prior to the meeting. Coffee and dessert will be served after the meeting.

This month Elgin Senior Services Activity Director, Minnie Vasquez and Patti Strahan will give a program about preventing falls. Strahan will lead some light exercises.

NARFE is the only association dedicated to protecting the earned retirement benefits of federal employees and their survivors. There is a Service Officer within the chapter available to answer questions. Membership benefits include assertive legislative representation on federal and state levels, informative monthly magazine, NARFE, the prime source for information about federal retirement and health care issues and our local Elgin chapter sends out a quarterly newsletter.

FCC Book Group: Jenny Lee, CTS Seminarian and FCC Intern will lead a book group for those who like to read and those who want to start reading. Groups meet at 11 a.m. and at 7 p.m. on the third Monday of each month. It is your choice which you would like to attend.

This will be a great opportunity for reading, discussing the work and having fellowship together.

American Legion Post 119: American Legion Post 119 is looking for organizations to participate in the Memorial Day Parade.

American Legion Frank H. Nagel Jr. Post 119 of Fox River Grove will sponsor a Memorial Day Parade and ceremony on May 26, starting at Algonquin Road School, 975 Algonquin Road, Fox River Grove.

The parade steps off at 8:30 a.m.
