Down to their last strike in the top of the seventh inning, back-to-back home runs from Brandon Stroh (2-for-4) and Ricky Rizzuto (3-for-4, HR) lifted Jacobs to a thrilling 9-8 win over Cary-Grove Monday in Fox Valley Conference Valley Division action.
The Golden Eagles moved to 7-2 overall and 2-on the Valley with the win.
For Cary-Grove (12-5, 0-2), Tyler Herman (3-1) took the loss allowing 3 hits in 4 innings of work with 4 strikeouts. Offensive efforts were led by Matt Nelsen (3-for-4, 2 doubles), Nick Hammonds (2-for-4, 2b) and Corey Bruns (HR).

Prairie Ridge 9, CL Central 6: Scoring early and often, Prairie Ridge (9-6, 2-0) took this Fox Valley Conference Fox Division game behind leading hitters Mike Butler (2-for-4), T. J. Swank (2-for-4) and Bobby Martin (2-for-3, 2b, 3 runs). Mike Heesch was on the hill fanning 11 batters while allowing 6 hits in the complete game effort.
CL South 15, Woodstock 3: Crystal Lake South (7-4, 1-1) pounded out 13 hits as the Gators defeated Woodstock for a Fox Valley (Valley) victory. Tim Ambrose (2-1) pitched all 7 innings striking out four and walking two. Sean Wilson and Wesley Evans each added a double for CLS. Gavin Meyer also contributed at the plate with a triple.
Bartlett 7, Streamwood 4: The Hawks (7-5, 6-4) earned this Upstate Eight Conference victory led at the plate by Alex Vanness (2-for-3), Kyle King (2b), Ryan Walker (2-for-4) and Mike Derby (HR). Dan Kasper (4 IP, 4 strikeouts) was on the mound for the win. Devin Rowland got the save. For Streamwood (4-12, 2-5), Zach Klein (5¿ IP, 6 hits, 7 strikeouts) suffered the loss. Dundee-Crown 16, McHenry 15: Dundee-Crown (7-5, 1-1) scored 7 runs in the top of the seventh inning to erase a 6-run deficit and win this Fox Valley Conference Valley Division game. Will Larsen (2-for-5, 2 RBI, 2 runs), Ryan Horcher (2-for-6, 2 RBI, 2 runs) Eric Barber (3-for-4, 4 RBI), Ben Rodriguez (2-for-5, 2 runs, 2 RBI) and Logan Kissack (2-for-4, 2 runs, 2 RBI) led a 14-hit day for the Chargers.
Westminster sweeps Luther South: In the Private School League the Warriors (13-3) kept busy showing off an incredible offensive day at the plate defeating Luther South 17-0, 16-0, setting an IHSA record with their sixth consecutive shutout. In Game 1, Ryan Donahue pitched all 5 innings allowing only 2 hits with 9 strikeouts and 1 walk. Zach Holmer (3-for-4) and Donahue (2-for-4) contributed with the bats. Ted Grossman was 2-for-4 with a double and a triple. In game 2 Chad Schroy pitched 4 innings with 9 strikeouts, only allowing 3 hits. Holmer went 3-for-5 while Schroy went 2-for 4 at the plate.
Neuqua Valley 12, Elgin 1: In the Upstate Eight Conference the Maroons fell to Neuqua Valley in 5 innings. Casey Knaack led Elgin at the plate with a double and 2 RBI.
Huntley 13, Grayslake North 3: The Red Raiders (12-5, 2-0) defeated the Knights for a Fox Valley (Fox) win. Nate Prokuski pitched all 5 innings with 2 strikeouts and 3 walks. Chris Klein was 2-for-3 at the plate with 2 doubles. Craig Lipp (3-for-4) also had a double while Nathan Sopena added a triple for Huntley.

McHenry 11, Cary-Grove 1: The Trojans (9-4, 1-2) fell in Fox Valley Conference Valley Division action. Kristen Bauer (5-2) suffered the loss in the circle pitching 4¿ innings with 4 strikeouts and no walks. Alexis Haley and Maggie O'Brien both went 1-for-3 with a double for Cary-Grove.
Jacobs 3, Woodstock 1: Becky Wilson (6-2) won this pitcher's duel, helping Jacobs (11-2, 3-0) to the Fox Valley Conference Valley Division win. Plate efforts were led by Sara Jacobson (hit, RBI), Lizzie Andrews (2b, RBI) and Cassy Bencal (3b).

Caitlin Stredde, Layla Ismajlaj, Tegan O'Connor, Kim Pierce and Vitiello (3-for-4) each had double for the Storm. Alyssa Krause had a triple while Vitiello and Katelyn Stonecipher each added a home run . For Elgin losing pitcher Kelly Patchett had a double.
Streamwood 9, East Aurora 1: Allowing just 5 hits, Kelsey Johnson (1-3) helped Streamwood (3-9, 3-4) to this Upstate Eight Conference win, allowing 5 hits while striking out five. Leading the Sabre offense were Daniella Vida (3-for-3, 2b) and Barb Posinger (4-for-4, 2b).
Westminster Christian sweeps Luther South: Taking each game in 5 innings, Westminster Christian swept Private School League opponent Luther South by scores of 19-5 and 12-2. Sara Seratto and Katie Moeller (5 IP, 5 strikeouts) each entered the circle for wins. Seratto (5-for-6, 7 RBI, 13 sb) and Moeller (2 doubles, 2 RBI, 6 sb) also led plate efforts. Elgin Academy 5, Christian Liberty 1: Behind a 4-goal performance from Lauren Steimle, Elgin Academy (5-4) took this nonconference match. Emma Stone also had a goal, while assists came from Kristin Cella (2), Alyssa Pena and Marysia Watson. In goal, Bianca Swegler tallied 12 saves.
Prairie Ridge 1, Johnsburg 0: It took two overtimes for the Wolves (6-4-1, 3-1) to come out on top of this Fox Valley (Fox) game. Kirsten Wessel scored the deciding goal in the shootout for PR.
Huntley 1, Grayslake Central 0: Senior Megan Hamm scored the game's only goal as Huntley (14-0, 5-0) won this Fox Valley (Fox) matchup.
St. Charles East 3, South Elgin 0: Danielle Wagner had 16 saves in goal for South Elgin (2-9-1) in this Upstate Eight loss.
St. Edward 3, Indian Creek 0: With goals from Brittany Brozek, Bianca Ramirez and Alex Rubio, St. Edward (6-2-1) earned this nonconference win. Taylor Hunsberger recorded 4 saves en route to the shutout, while Colleen Kerger added a pair of assists.
Cary-Grove 8, Woodstock 0: The Trojans (9-1) scored a big win over Woodstock in the Fox Valley (Valley). Kelsey Passaglia had 2 goals for C-G while Taylor Mahoney, Allie Simon, Sally Tashjian, Ashley Gustafson, Kelli Anderson and Brittany Kroening each scored once. Passaglia also collected 3 assists and Alex Holland was in the net with 1 save for Cary-Grove.

ECC splits with Lake County: In ISCC action, Elgin Community College (17-9, 8-3) split with Lake County, losing 2-1 before bouncing back for a 4-3 Game 2 win. Austin Licon was the bright spot of the offense in Game 1 with a double. In the back end, Kyle Kukulski got his first win of the season allowing 3 runs on 3 hits in 3½ innings pitched. Trevor Rutkowski (2-for-3, 2b, 2 RBI) and Bryan Mason (2b) led the offense.
College softball
ECC sweeps Morton: Plating 30 runs in two games, Elgin Community College (6-14, 2-6) swept Morton over the weekend by scores of 11-0 and 19-3. Jessica Schue and Casey Holtz each recorded wins in the circle. At the dish, Stephanie Esterino (3-for-4, 2b, 3b, 2 runs, 3 RBI), Schue (2-for-3, 2 RBI), Megan McGovern (4-for-6, 4 RBI, 3 runs), Amanda Price (2-for-3, 2b, HR, 3 RBI), and Holtz (2-for-3, 3b, 2 runs, 2 RBI) led the Spartan attack.
