Daily Herald Players of the Week

LAKE CO.

Tiffany Hendrickson, Carmel

The Corsairs don't score a lot, but in Hendrickson they have a player who can score with the best of them. The junior guard is one of the better shooters in the county and showed it in a road game at St. Joseph. She scored 23 points as the Corsairs won 41-35 for their third straight victory.

Clay Henricksen, Grayslake North

The Knights have lost more than share of close decisions this season. Against Round Lake, the senior forward made sure they wouldn't have to sweat out another one. Henricksen tied his career high with 29 points, leading Grayslake North to a 63-54 win that snapped its four-game losing streak.

NORTHWEST SUBURBS

James Kurtz, Wheeling

Kurtz helped lead the way at both ends of the floor as Wheeling continued its drive to move above .500 for the first time this season with a pair of big fourth-quarter comebacks. The junior had 14 points, 3 assists, 3 rebounds and 2 steals in a 54-49 Mid-Suburban East win over Rolling Meadows and 7 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists in a 52-46 win over Schaumburg.

Mary Kusner, Maine West

Kusner enjoyed a stellar outing against Glenbrook South in which she scored a game-high 12 points in a 40-25 victory at the Titan Dome in Glenview. The 6-foot senior forward collected 10 rebounds, 4 blocked shots and 2 steals over the Titans, who are in a first-place tie in the Central Suburban South and just 1 win from a 20-win season.

FOX VALLEY

Kadie Lowery, Huntley

Just a freshman, Lowery has burst onto the varsity scene in a big way for the Red Raiders since being called up a few weeks ago. Last week, she scored a game-high 15 points (three 3-pointers) and had 4 rebounds and 3 assists in a 61-55 upset of Johnsburg, which was previously unbeaten in FVC Fox play. Then she came back with a team-high 8 points (two 3-pointers) and 5 rebounds in a 36-28 win over Prairie Ridge.

Mark Tometich, Cary-Grove

The senior shooting guard led Cary-Grove to a 57-52 victory at Crystal Lake South by scoring 25 points on 7-of-10 shooting from beyond the arc. Tometich gave the Trojans a 52-50 lead with under a minute to play when he connected on a 3-pointer.

DUPAGE CO.

Jessica Morice, Waubonsie Valley

Playing her first game in a month, the 5-foot-8 junior guard came back from an ankle injury and scored 19 points, grabbed 7 rebounds and made 3 steals to lead the Warriors to a 64-46 victory against St. Charles North in an Upstate Eight Conference showdown for first place. Morice went 5 of 9 from the field and 8 of 8 from the foul line.

David Schwabe, Driscoll

The 6-foot-1 dynamo was a driving force in two clutch victories. The senior guard scored 19 points with 9 rebounds, 8 assists and 2 steals in a 65-53 win over Glenbard West. He scored 15 points with 4 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 steals in a 67-57 win over Suburban Catholic Conference leader Aurora Central.

TRI-CITIES

Chelsea Cooper, Aurora Christian

Aurora Christian went 2-1 last week, as the Eagles' third-leading scorer tallied 44 points. She scored 16 in a win over Westminster Christian and a game-high 20 points in the rout over Luther North.

David Dudzinski, Kaneland

Kaneland split a pair of games last week with this 6-foot-9 sophomore center leading the team with 35 points. Dudzinski was consistent, scoring 18 points in a loss to Rochelle and following with 17 in the Knights' win over Sycamore.
