Faith in Action to begin medical equipment loan closet

Faith in Action of McHenry County announced it has received a grant from the St. Paul Episcopal Church community outreach grant program.

The purpose of this grant is to begin a durable medical equipment loan closet. Currently, McHenry County residents have to travel out of county to borrow wheelchairs, walkers and other needed equipment. Faith in Action will now be able to accommodate these needs.

Those wishing to donate their gently used and clean equipment can contact Faith in Action after the first of the year.

St. Paul's funding was made possible as a result of a bequest received three years ago from Amy Wattman. Stipulations require that a portion of the money be used for community outreach.

Crystal Lake-based Faith is Action was one of six county programs to be awarded a grant. The nonprofit organization provides volunteer services to help support independent living for residents of McHenry County ages 60 and older who live in their homes or with loved ones. Services are provided at no charge, and include transportation, shopping, friendly visits, respite for caretakers, light housekeeping and light yard cleanup.

The organization relies on grants, public donations and fundraisers to continue operating. To make a donation, learn about planned giving, inquire about services for yourself or a family member, or volunteer for Faith in Action, call (815) 455-3120 or visit the Web site at www.fiamchenrycounty.org.
