Cardinal presents Mt. Prospect man with award; honors others

Ron Frost of St. Thomas Becket Parish in Mount Prospect was one of six individuals to receive the Bishop Quarter Award during ceremonies at Holy Name Cathedral on Oct. 7 for service to the ministry of the Catholic Church.

Cardinal Francis George, O.M.I., archbishop of Chicago, presented the awards that recognize outstanding Catholics who exhibit an understanding of church teachings and use their talents to deepen the life of the church in the six vicariates of the archdiocese.

Frost is a member of the Ministry Commission for Vicariate I that includes the Northwest portion of Cook County and all of Lake County, and has been a parish Minister of Care for over 22 years.

The Quarter awards are named in honor of the Rt. Rev. William Quarter, who was Chicago's first Bishop from 1844 to 1848.

This is the fifth year these awards have been presented following a nomination process that included input from auxiliary bishops, pastors and parish council members.

During the ceremony, Cardinal George also conferred 52 Christifideles Awards on Archdiocesan Catholics who reside in Vicariate I and have demonstrated a personal, ministerial renewal and responsibility for the Church's life at the parish level. These awards are named after Pope John Paul II's Apostolic Exhortation, Christifideles Laici, on the role of the laity in the Church's mission to the world.
