St. Charles North blasts Addison Trail

St. Charles North wasted no time putting the soccer ball in the net against the Addison Trail on Wednesday.

St. Charles North scored 3 times in the first 12 minutes in its easy win in the first game of the Class AA St. Charles East regional semifinal.

"Obviously, that was big," St. Charles North coach Eric Willson said. "I think it was the intensity we came out with in the first 15 minutes -- I thought that was important. The fact that we got those goals was obviously just as important, so it was big-time for the guys. They played really well."

"We wanted to come out," added Austin Andrekus, who scored the first goal for the North Stars at the 32-minute mark. "We really didn't know much about them, but we wanted to come out with a lot of intensity. We wanted to come out and score early."

A little over two minutes after Andrekus scored, Vladimir Schlageter did the same off a pass from Dominic Catalano.

Two minutes later, Kyle Joss was the North Star of the moment with his goal from Mike Picinich. That capped the scoring for the first half.

Ten minutes into the second half, Jon Schroeder scored from another assist from Picinich. Christian Foote tallied the last goal for the North Stars with 21:31 left in the game.

The North Stars are going for their fourth consecutive regional title.

Geneva 3, Bartlett 0:ŒGeneva entered Wednesday night's Bartlett regional semifinal vs. the Hawks on a 12-game win streak. Eighty minutes later, it was lucky No. 13 as the Vikings earned a bid to Saturday's regional final with a 3-0 win over the Hawks.

In the first half alone Geneva outshot Bartlett 15-2. Seven of those Vikings shots were on goal, and they converted 3 of those 7 into goals.

Score early and score often.

Senior forward Maxwell Cary got Geneva on the board in the 13th minute of play after driving a ball down the right side and firing one past Bartlett goalkeeper Vince DiNuzzo, giving the Vikings a 1-0 lead.

Just two minutes later, Cary connected a second time. Midfielder Adam Cornwell found Cary in front of the net and delivered a perfect pass which Cary pushed past DiNuzzo via the header.

"Scoring two early goals was great because it was just nice to get the weight off our shoulders," Cary said. "As a forward, you always dream of scoring the first goal of the game to help set the tempo."

Geneva (16-5-2) advances to the regional final where it will face Glenbard West at 1 p.m. at Millennium Field.
