LF tops Cats on fifth score

Alex Hein stepped up her golf game, but she couldn't prevent Libertyville from losing to a close match against Lake Forest.

The host Scouts prevailed on a fifth-score tiebreaker after both teams carded a 194 at Lake Bluff Golf Club on Tuesday.

Hein earned medalist honors by firing a 40, five strokes better than teammate Ashley Falasz and Lake Forest's Hailey Koschmann.

Lake Zurich d. Warren: At Countryside, the Bears' 193 gave them a five-stroke victory.

Jill Hertel carded a 47 for the Bears, while visiting Warren was led by medalist Dana Lindelof (44).

Boys golf

CL Central d. Grayslake C.: At Stonewall Orchard, the host Rams fell to Crystal Lake Central 161-171.

Michael Reynolds shot a 42 for Grayslake Central.

Stevenson d. Lake Zurich: At Arboretum, the Patriots won on a fifth-score tiebreaker after both teams carded 175.

Stevenson's Eric Pacewicz was medalist with a 39. Lake Zurich's Mark DeCanio had a 42.

Vernon Hills d. Antioch: At White Deer Run, the host Cougars (174) won by 14 strokes, receiving matching 42s from Dan Downey and Jeremy Graham.

Lucas McClain shot a 45 for Antioch (4-4, 3-1). Vernon Hills improved to 3-2, 3-1.

Wauconda d. Round Lake: At Renwood, the Bulldogs shot a 175, led by Paul Lindahl's 42.

Lewis Castelanos carded a 42 for Round Lake (204).

Grayslake N. d. Huntley: At Renwood, the Knights shot a 180 in a 12-shot victory, as Ryan O'Malley fired a 38.

Girls volleyball

Antioch d. Round Lake: Katie Lonergan hammered 7 kills, as the Sequoits stayed unbeaten in the North Suburban Prairie Division with a 25-15, 25-20 win.

Antioch (9-1, 3-0) also got 15 assists from Melisa Ori, 4 kills from Martha Arntson, and 4 kills and 3 blocks from Megan Toczek. Tara Saulski played from front row in place of the injured Lindsay Callanan and contributed a kill.

Labrenthia Murdock had 4 kills for Round Lake, while Brittany Kucia was 49-of-49 setting with 4 assists. Amber Chayer had 7 digs, and Amber Phillips recorded 4 blocks.

Carmel d. St. Viator: Kaitlyn Howard had 9 kills and 4 blocks for the Corsairs in their East Suburban Catholic Conference opener.

Ashley August had 13 assists, 9 digs and 2 aces for Carmel (4-2). Kelsey Fredrick contributed 7 digs. Vanessa Toby and Katie Roy chipped in 2 kills and 2 aces apiece.

Lake Zurich d. Zion-Benton: Crystal Wright and Jenn Grunden had 5 and 4 kills, respectively, for the Bears in their 25-5, 25-16 win.

Wright and Melissa Miehlke served 3 aces apiece for Lake Zurich (8-3, 2-0 North Suburban Lake Division). Lydia Bauer lofted 9 assists and Sara Drury set 7.

Jacobs d. Grayslake N.: The Knights lost the Fox Valley Conference crossover 25-11, 25-17.

Megan Falk had 3 kills and 7 digs for Grayslake North (6-8). Kaitlyn Klausner added 4 assists and a pair of kills, and Elizabeth Phillips posted 15 digs.

Boys soccer

Wauconda 7, Vernon Hills 1: Raul Tapia, Greg Henk and Greg Gustafson scored in the first half of the North Suburban Prairie Division opener.

Wauconda (4-2-3) got a pair of second-half goals from Mike LeClaire. Cesar Rodriguez and Jesus Rodriguez also scored for the Bulldogs, while Ivan Luna had 2 assists. Jesus Rodriguez, Eric Christensen, Mike Mrohen and Henk also had assists.

Gene Pavelko scored for Vernon Hills.

Lake Zurich 3, Warren 0: The Bears got second-half tallies from Nick Janus, Matt Steffen and Zak Khoshbin to win the North Suburban Lake Division opener.

Steffen and Tim Kreutz had assists for Lake Zurich (5-3-2). Taao Scarnato made 2 saves in recording the shutout.

Warren fell to 4-5-2 overall.

LFA 5, Latin School 0: Lake Forest Academy (5-1) received 2 goals apiece from David Caban and Kai Lu.

Round Lake 3, N. Chicago 0: Cesar Garcia scored twice, as the Panthers won their North Suburban Prairie Division opener to improve to 2-0.

Javier Martinez also scored, while Jose Landa made 3 saves in earning his second straight shutout.

Stevenson 2, Zion-Benton 1: Mike Santini and Colin Pekovitch scored for the Patriots (6-3-1) in their North Suburban Lake Division opener.

Grayslake North 3, Prairie Ridge 2: Junior defender Blake Peek picked up a pair of assists for the Knights, and senior Drew Hauck scored the game-winning goal in the second overtime.

Senior Andrew Trahan and sophomore Julio Zamora also scored for Grayslake North (8-2).

Girls tennis

Libertyville 3, Mundelein 2: Dena Boulieris and Sharon Lo won at Nos. 1 and 2 singles, respectively, for the Wildcats.

Libertyville also won second doubles with Eileen Lee and Megan Jensen.
