Renowned physicist Brian Greene draws sold-out crowd at College of DuPage

Physicist and string theorist Brian Greene discusses Einstein's research to find a single theory to explain all of nature's forces with a sold-out crowd at the McAninch Arts Center at College of DuPage. Greene, a Harvard graduate, Rhodes Scholar, and professor of physics and mathematics at Columbia University, presented "Chasing Reality: Einstein's Dream and Beyond." Greene, director of Columbia's Center for Theoretical Physics, is one of several acclaimed educators and scientists visiting the college this spring.

Upcoming spring STEMinars include:

• Adler Planetarium's Mark Subbarao and his talk "Data to Dome Technology" on April 12;

• Fermilab's Wesley Ketchum with his talk "Understanding the Universe through Neutrinos" on April 6; and,

• Ted Daeschler, curator and professor at the Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University, and his talk "Great Steps in the History of Life: The Origin of Limbed Vertebrates" on April 20.

Additionally, the College of DuPage will host its third annual STEM-CON, the college's interactive, family-based celebration of all things STEM, on Saturday, April 28.

This year's event will feature dozens of hands-on STEM booths and workshops, as well as keynote speaker Emily Graslie, writer, producer, co-creator and host of "The Brain Scoop," an educational YouTube channel that explores behind-the-scenes of The Field Museum.

STEM-CON is funded by a grant from the Illinois Community College Board and funded partially through the Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Act of 2006.
