March 18: German high school choir to present concert at United Protestant Church of Grayslake

Thirty singers from the Chamber Choir of the Domgymnasium Verden in Verden, Germany, will present a free concert on Sunday, March 18 at 3 p.m. as part of the United Protestant Church of Grayslake Concert Series. The choir is visiting Grayslake March 7-23 on a musical exchange with Grayslake North High School.

The concert will feature the choir's sacred program, which includes a cappella works by composers of several eras. The program will include "Glory to thee, my God, this night," "If ye love me" by (Thomas Tallis), "Gloria" by Nystedt, "Dit-or" and "O Magnum Mysterium" by Morten Lauridsen," "Thou Knowest Lord" by Henry Purcell, "Lamentations of Jeremiah" by Randall Stroope, "When I Fall in Love" by Kirby Shaw, "Halleluja" by Cohen, "Cantate Domino" by Jay Althouse, "Verleih uns" by Frieden Mendelssohn and "Irish Blessing."

Paul Nielsen, choir director at Grayslake North High School, said that the German Chamber Choir also will perform at Grayslake Central High School, Vernon Hills High School, Libertyville High School and Dank Haus Cultural Center in Chicago. In return, the German choir will host Grayslake North's Slam Funk group for two and a half weeks in June, where the band will perform at schools and other venues.

The United Protestant Church of Grayslake is affiliated with the United Church of Christ Fox Valley Association and the United Methodist Church Northern Illinois Conference.
