McHenry County Salvation Army raises $217,000 in Red Kettle Campaign

Christmas Toyland was abuzz with activity last month while 423 registered families were escorted by friendly volunteers in picking out toys, games, and clothing for 1,011 children thanks to the generosity of individuals, businesses and corporations in McHenry County.

The Salvation Army of McHenry County partnered with five community agencies and businesses to promote the need for toys and clothing to distribute to low-income families during the Christmas season.

Capt. Carol Lewis, Corps Commanding Officer, stated, "The generosity of McHenry County astounds us each year and we are blessed to have so many wonderful community partners and supporters."

Without the support of others, The Salvation Army of McHenry County could not support families in need during the Christmas season or all year-round.

This past Christmas season, volunteers donated 3,110 bellringing hours to help The Salvation Army of McHenry County raise $217,455 in the Red Kettle Campaign.

The goal was $200,000 and this year's all-volunteer program surpassed that goal by 9 percent, thanks to the generosity of time and energy of many individuals, first responders, service clubs, churches, businesses and schools.

Lewis states, "Our bellringing program is the only one of its kind in the Chicago metropolitan area, and surrounding northern Illinois and northern Indiana division.

"We are thrilled that each year the volunteers exceed our goals and expectations, and for that we are extremely grateful. Thank you!"

While the red kettle campaign ended Dec. 23, the Christmas campaign runs until Jan. 31.
